June DVD order

Sometimes the fun part of my lowly blog is trying to figure out why I bought something. There is always a lag between the time I select something and we actually get it into the system for purchase so sometimes I forget why I ordered something when I'm annotating my list for this blog. I always try to 'buy with a purpose', meaning there is always a reason I get something for the collection. It can be the actor, director, or maybe it's on somebodies list of the best something or other. We have have limited space and a limited budget so I cannot buy everything but this month it was pretty easy to remember what I got and why.

For the movie collection, they finally released the films of James Bond so I got caught up on those films through the Roger Moore years. I've also been filling in the comedy collection and I recently reviewed our collection of Jerry Lewis and Peter Sellers. I also went through and built up my collection of James Garner films.

For the television collection I have been buying more seasons of the television series I began earlier. At first I was just going to have a sampler of first seasons but due to popular request I'm buying more seasons of TV shows we already have. There are also several DVD's from Masterpiece Theater, which were also in response to customer requests. (So remember to let me know what you want me to buy!) In the Non-fiction collection I have been buying a series of WWII Made-For-TV documentaries.

Enjoy.

Motion Picture DVD's

Americanization of Emily: Highly rated but Cynical WWII romantic comedy with James Garner, Julie Andrews, Melvyn Douglas, James Coburn, and Keenan Wynn from a Paddy Chayefsky Script.
Bellboy: Jerry Lewis directs Jerry Lewis.
Diamonds Are Forever: Sean Connery is James Bond with Jill St. John .
Disorderly Orderly: Jerry Lewis does some first rate slapstick and sight gags.
Duel at Diablo: Violent and exciting take on traditional Cavalry vs. Indian western with James Garner and Sidney Poitier.
Five Card Stud: Dean Martin, Robert Mitchum, Roddy McDowall, Inger Stevens in a western mystery. Great cast but the critics hated it.
For Your Eyes Only: Roger Moore's best effort as Bond.
From Russia with Love: Second and one of the best Bond films with Sean Connery and Robert Shaw. This one has a real spy plot with a honey trap and a false flag operation.
Live and Let Die: Roger Moore's first Bond appearance. Lots of chase scenes no plot and an award winning theme song by Paul McCartney.
Man with the Golden Gun: Roger Moore, Brit Eckland, and Christopher Lee. Moore's second Bond appearance. With Style, action and great locals.
Moonraker: Cartoonish James Bond action adventure with Roger Moore.
Murphy's Romance: Sally Field, James Garner in an easy going romantic Comedy that got Garner his first Oscar nomination.
Octopussy: Another hugely entertaining nothing with Roger Moore as James Bond and Maud Adams as the bad girl. There may be a plot in there somewhere but that action who cares?
Return of the Pink Panther: Peter Sellers Inspector Clouseau steals every scene while Christopher Plummer, Catherine Schell, and Herbert Lom steal the Pink Panther. (Third in the series.)
Soapdish: Sally Field, Kevin Kline, Whoopi Goldberg, Elizebeth Shue, Carrie Fisher, Teri Hatcher, Robert Downey Jr. in a comic send off of television soap operas.
Spy Who Loved Me: Roger Moore, Barbara Bach, Kurt Jurgens with Carly Simon singing the title song.
Support Your Local Sheriff: James Garner, Walter Brennen, Jack Elam, Henry Morgan, and Bruce Dern in an hilarious parody of westerns.
Ten Little Indians: British version of the Agatha Christie novel with Shirley Eaton, Hugh O'Brian and Daliah Levi.
Thunderball: Sean Connery as James Bond in Jamaica with lots of under water action.
View to a Kill: Roger Moore's last appearance as Bond comic book but not as bad as Moonraker.
World of Henry Orient: Marvelous comedy of two girls infatuated with Pianist Peter Sellers.
You Only Live Twice: Sean Connery does James Bond in Japan with rocket ships and toy helicopter gunships.
