The Horror is here!

I started off with academy award winners. As a whole they tend to be pretty serious stuff, and sometimes its Hollywood at it's pretentious best. It's often the case that the Oscar winners aren't the movies we remember. So I've been going through classics by Genre and the Horror movies are all showing on the shelves right now. I've been curious about the Val Lewton productions. Most film critics consider them classics. I remember 'Cat People'. I wasn't too impressed at the time but now that I know they were low budget I've been impressed.
The Body Snatcher with Boris Karloff was especially creepy. Don't watch these if you are expecting camp. You won't find screaming damsels falling down to let the ghoul catch them. These are well crafted and suspenseful.

I watched the Haunting last week and it was an excellent little scare also. This week I'll be watching Dead of Night and the 1932 Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde. The rest of the Horror should be out soon along with Sci-Fi. I know I saw the Ray Harryhausen Sinbad trilogy today so I know they are in the pipeline somewhere.

Latin Jazz

For all you jazz lovers I never listened to Latin jazz much but I knew when I heard it that there was some good Jazz out there I liked. I've been listening to to the Latin Music buy I made a while back and I really like Eddie Palmieri: Listen here, Tito Puente: Oye Como Va: the Dance Collection, Cachao:Master sessions, Vol 1, and Mongo Santamaria Orchestra: Mongo introduces La Lupe. Jazz isn't for every one but if you are a jazz lover you have to hear these albums.

Quick thoughts

I apologize. I haven't been blogging much lately. I am fairly far ahead in my ordering of DVDs and a little ahead in my ordering of music. I am so far ahead that that I am blogging about DVDs and CDs that won't be on the shelves for months. This is very frustrating because by the time movies or music I have purchased show up on the shelves I have moved on to something else. The classic Horror movies I bought are just now making it out on the shelf but the order I'm working on now is Westerns. Latin film, French Film and Comedies are still in the pipeline. I'm thinking about Jazz but I've been deep into Latin and Christian since I ordered the Country music that's just now getting out.

I did a number of annotated lists of Rock Music CD's I bought and they seemed to have generated some interest. I'm thinking of printing them out for our walk in customers. If there is anyone out there reading this and you thing lists of what I buy would be helpful please let me know.
