The new year (2010)

Somewhere along the way last year I missed blogging about my Halloween Horror Buy. Hammer Films is being resurrected (which somehow seems appropriate) and is re-releasing many of it older films so I went nuts and bought many of the Christopher Lee Peter Cushing horror films. I also purchased many of Vincent Price's Edgar Allen Poe film adaptions but I don't think I printed out a list of that buy before I bought them because I can't find it. If I do I'll blog it.

One of my new year's resolutions is to try not to fall as far behind in my blogging as I did last year so people can keep up with what I'm ordering. My January 2010 purchase this year is starting off with a purchase of the top grossing films of 2008. Anyone who has talked to me about our collection policy knows I try not to compete with local businesses so I usually wait a while to order top sellers on DVD. Most of this order is top grossing but for those film buffs who really care about classic film I do have some gems in this order. Kennel Murder Case is a 30's Philo Vance mystery classic. Beau Geste and the Angel and the Badman are two I've been trying to get for a long time. While looking for a made for TV of Great Expectations I found a David Lean version which is supposed to be "one of the greatest film ever made." (Leonard Maltin's 2010 Movie Guide) I also tried to find some of the great "Bollywood" but I got scared off by the reviews of film quality. It seems most Indian movies are filmed then dubbed so the sound quality drives fanboys nuts. One curiosity I found was a collection of the Three Mesquiteers. Bob Livingston, Ray 'Crash' Corrigan, and Max Terhune were the 'Three Mesquiteers' a b-feature western team in the 30's-40's who worked with John Wayne among others. I also found a copy of Death Takes a Holiday, the 1934 film that inspired Meet Joe Black.
